| How many of you out there are pipe smokers? And for those of you that are how many started because of Holmes? |

I have been enjoying my tobacco via the briar for nearly two years now. No, i didnt start the "gentle art of smoking" because of the Holmes series; i became interested in the series because of my love for the briar.
How about yourself? Are you a pipe smoker, and if so, what pipes do you have?

| my uncle was a pipe smoker and my father occasionally partook. I myself have only pretended as a child but even now I enjoy the memory of the subtle taste of tobacco on the end of the pipe as I pretened to smoke my fathers pipe. I may have to try out the real thing sometime soon. |

Not condoning or trying to convince you to start smoking a pipe, but if you are interested in learning more about it you may try pipes.org. There is a lot of discussion concerning pipe smoking and maintenance. Yes, pipe smoking requires a lot of work; unlike cigarettes or cigars, pipes require a special style of consumption and care.
Happy Gaming,

| I've always liked pipes although I'm not a regular pipe smoker. I collect them and have pipes ranging from Dunhill, Peterson, Comoy etc. I have a couple of antique pipes dating to the late 19th century, a hookah, some clays, a calabash, briars, cheerywood, churchwardens, meershaums, you name it. In all I have some 48 pipes. I think Holmes might have been an inspiration but I've never really thought about it before. I first read the canon when I was 14 and wasn't into smoking anything back then! |

I started purely for aesthetic reasons, to be honest! Oh, yes, and because I am a girl (thought there ought to be more feminine pipe-smokers out there). There's a great deal more to it than I expected; still consider myself a fumbling beginner. My current pipe is a bulldog-style briar. Haven't decided on a regular tobacco yet. |
